As evidenced by the reissue treatment given to the Foo Fighters' The Colour and the Shape and Dave Grohl's current reign atop Clear Channel playlists, not much has really changed for mainstream alternative music in the last decade. One case in point is the reunion of the Toadies, who haven't put out a new record since 2001's Hell Below/Stars Above. While frontman Vaden Todd Lewis has kept busy since then with the Burden Brothers, the Toadies' legacy and drawing power have only grown with time, magnifying the nostalgic bliss produced by classic cuts like "Possum Kingdom" and "I Come from the Water." Openers Lions, whose single "Heavy Metal Lady" was recently featured on the video game Guitar Hero 3, followed up its debut EP Volume One with this year's full-length No Generation. Led by guitarist and vocalist Matt Drenik, the Austin-based quartet cooks up an anthemic batch of rock and roll for those who are tired of hearing the same damn thing on the radio.
