It may seem odd to ring in the New Year with a celebration of two composers who died 250 years ago, but Ars Lyrica Houston, who specialize in baroque music, have found a way to make centuries-old music seem new. In tonight’s Clandestine Classics, they’ll perform lesser-known masterworks from Bach and Handel, including Bach’s Triple Concerto and Handel’s “Gloria.” Soprano Melissa Givens and tenor Tony Boutté will join musicians on the violin, flute and harpsichord. That’s lots of classical music, yes, but don’t worry: There will also be champagne and a mixer, where attendees can mingle with the musicians. 9 p.m. Zilkha Hall, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby. For information, call 713-622-7443 or visit www.arslyricahouston.org. $15 to $25.
