Trans-Siberian Orchestra

The Toyota Center

Love ‘em or loathe ‘em, you can’t deny that the yuletide concert tours of the Trans--Siberian Orchestra have become a hugely popular annual tradition (one that Andy Williams or the Heat Miser never could have foreseen). Founded in 1996 by composer and rock producer Paul O’Neill, the more-than-30-member troupe plays seasonal music in a bombastic style combining prog-rock with classical sounds (and look good while they do it). And while the blazing guitars, whirling keyboards and syncopated violin bows are enough to make Whitesnake turn red with embarrassment, it’s hard not to be swept up in the sheer majesty of their live performance. Plus, who doesn’t love a little dry-ice effect during the holidays? Just don’t expect a French horn-fueled take on “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.” Today’s 7:30 p.m. show is sold out, but tickets are still available for the 3 p.m. performance. Toyota Center, 1510 Polk. For information, call 866-4HOUTIX or visit www.houstontoyotacenter.com. $38.50 to $50.50.
Thu., Dec. 27, 3 & 7:30 p.m., 2007
