Outback Steakhouse's Gingerbread Martini

Attention, friends and readers of this column: I need an intervention. Hold on, it's not what you think. I don't have a problem with booze; I have a problem with baked goods. My addiction started out small — a donut here, a cookie there, all recreational use. Then the holidays hit and my need started to escalate. An extra piece of pecan pie couldn't hurt me — homemade banana bread for breakfast was good for you, right? Gee, everybody else was doing it. Soon I had to figure out how to support my habit, so I decided to give homemade cookies and candies to everyone on my Christmas list — that way I could make extra and tweak out in the kitchen. I knew I'd hit rock bottom when I ended up at the Outback Steakhouse (8731 W. Loop 610, 713-218-0760), because word on the street was they made a gingerbread martini that was way chronic. Even though I'm a chain restaurant snob, that didn't stop me from enjoying this unbelievable, really-should-be-illegal dessert drink. Come on, folks — it's obvious I need help getting this monkey off my butt — which happens to be getting bigger by the moment.

1 ounce Ketel One vodka

1 ounce Baileys Irish Cream liqueur

1/2 ounce Kahlúa liqueur

1/2 ounce Monin gingerbread syrup

1/2 scoop vanilla ice cream — semi-melted

Whipped cream

Gingerbread cookie

Because of corporate policy, Outback wouldn't give me the exact amounts of each of the ingredients (another reason I don't like chains), so I cooked up this version in the home lab and it was perfect. Mix the first five ingredients over ice, shake well, pour into a chilled martini glass and top with a generous portion of whipped cream and a gingerbread cookie. You'll be trippin'.

Ok, I was able to sign in as me, so I reposted the comment below. If anyone's still interested in making this but is having as much trouble as I did finding the Monin gingerbread syrup, try asking your local Outback if they'll sell you a bottle of the syrup. That's what I did this past weekend & got a good sized bottle for $6 which honestly, I think is fairly reasonable, especially since I couldn't find a bottle last winter to save my life. Also, recipe above says to use Baileys, Kahlua, and Ketel One Vodka, but the menu description clearly states they use Absolut vodka. Might not make a big difference but thought it might be worthy to note. Also, I've read they don't use vanilla ice cream but rather "ice milk". Not sure the oz total, tho, for the milk.

I'm not "rachelmnop". No idea why it gave me that name, just said I would be posting as that. WTF??) - Kaija

Outback SteakHouse Coupons would allow its customers to enjoy the famous and mouth watering blooming onion at low rate and high taste.

Thanks so much for posting this. Made these last night for a family party and everyone loved them. Mod: We added a little more ice cream and dialed back the Kahlua to half as much and liked the taste even more.

OMG - I am in heaven. I could not find the syrup, so I picked up some Ginger Liqueur. So the recipe had to be tweaked a bit, but I sure had fun sampling my test pool!

I had one of these last night at Outback and I had to find the recipe, thanks. I did take a photo of the description from the menu, the only difference from your recipe is that Outback uses absolute vodka. I can't wait to taste test this at home.

I use to work at outback and this was my favorite! To make it the exact way, replace the ice cream with ice milk. :)

I am right there with you...when it comes to how sinfully good that gingerbread martini is...one of my favorite parts of the drink was the chocolate rim w/crushed gingerbread cookie stuck to it. I bought some gingerbread cookies hoping to find the recipe online - Thank you very much!

  • Debra 12/01/2008 9:13:00 AM

No words can truly describe this Heavenly martini, but you came close. Thanks for figuring out the recipe!! You left out an important lip smacking must have. Dip the rim in chocolate, then fine cookie crumbs. After the last drop , lick the rim clean. :), then order another one or two, & call a cab. YUM!!!!
