John Mulaney

Comedian muses on Law & Order, Billy Joel and Donald Trump

Comic John Mulaney could be called a Law & Order groupie. “I talk about Law & Order a lot because I’m obsessed with it,” the comedian said in a bit he performed on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. He wasn’t kidding, either. A YouTube search turns up a number of videos in which Mulaney waxes analytical on everything from the show’s build-ups to its reveals to its tendency to feature the same reoccurring characters, such as The Judge Who Allows Everything or Mulaney’s favorite, New York City Bartender Who Recognizes Everybody Who’s Ever Been in the Bar. Although Bartender can recall customers, he doesn’t pick up on obvious situations. “‘Yeah, Blue-Shirt Lady,’” Mulaney says, impersonating Bartender. “‘Why, did something happen to her?’ It’s like yeah, something most definitely did. That’s why the murder police are here…talking about her in the past tense.”
