If you’ve been jonesin’ for sock monkeys, odd wall art, theater seating and crazy music, don’t worry — the new version of Super Happy Fun Land, whose old spot was named Best Place to See Local Music in our Best of 2007® edition, is almost ready. Last week, owner Brian Arthur took us on a tour of the venue’s new home. It was looking good but still under heavy renovation.

Arthur assured us the stage area would be ready in time for today’s big opening, with more changes coming later. He says that eventually, the new location, in the warehouse district (a former cash register factory), will also include a movie screen, more theater seating, a full bar, an art gallery, a library and studio space. This is feasible because the new place has what the old one was lacking: space, 7,500 square feet of it.

Today’s opening promises plenty of polka music, as well as live music from Poopy Longstuffing, The Annoysters, Styro-foam Duck and Muzak John. Come and see the more super, happier fun land at 8 p.m. today. 3801 Polk. For information, call 713-880-2100 or visit www.super-happy-funland.com. Free.
