More About

Before the term "aggro" was co-opted by cute hipsters, it was used to describe bands like Templars. Even after some 15 years in the trenches, the New York quartet remains one of the most menacing, important punk bands out there. Their songs are less melodic than those of The Business — the Templars lean more toward the anguish of Damaged-era Black Flag, but they're not depressed or mad at their buds for spending the night with a six-pack and The Jeffersons. They're pissed at politicians, burnouts, zealots, racist dipshits and anyone who chooses narcotics over beer. The Templars' music is a cathartic rallying cry, pure and simple, and Houston is their only Texas stop, so who knows when you'll have another chance to get a bloody nose with a band of this caliber? Templars' Lone Star State Pillage tour brings them down to headline Texas Oi! Fest 2008, which begins Friday with Phil Templar DJing from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Notsuoh. The aggro party continues with a barbecue at The Big Easy from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, and wraps up with Saturday night's big show at Numbers.
