More About

When pressed for an answer, Davie Allan readily admits, "I was never on a motorcycle!" That's a brave confession for the man Rolling Stone calls the "undisputed boss hog of biker-movie soundtracks." Allan is also the undisputed king of fuzz guitar, having written and performed scores for more than two dozen 1960s biker and teen exploitation films including Mary Jane, Wild in the Streets and other period slices of cinematic cheese. The Southern California-based Allan hit the Top 40 with "Blue's Theme" from 1966's The Wild Angels. His revved-up sound fell out of fashion after the '60s, yet early punk rockers appreciated his gritty roar and he found himself a cult figure by the '80s. Allan stopped writing for films but continued to record with his band the Arrows; in 2005, he was rewarded with a box set called Devil's Rumble, an effort as critically acclaimed as his 2003 studio album, Restless in L.A. Now working on its follow-up, Moving Right Along, Allan maintains a busy schedule that brings him to Houston Saturday with current Arrows Dusty Watson and Sam Bolle, along with Austin's surf-twangmasters 3 Balls of Fire.
