Trophy Catch at Islamorada Fish Company

By Paul Galvani

Trophy catch: It is hard to resist the lure of the grouper Reuben sandwich at Islamorada Fish Company (1000 Bass Pro Dr., inside the Bass Pro Shop, 713-770-5000). One slice of toasted rye bread is covered in melted Swiss, and the other is spread with a thinly shredded slaw mixed with Thousand Island dressing. In the middle sits a large piece of meaty white grouper, either extra-crispy and deep-fried, or simply grilled. The hearty sandwich comes with fries or a homemade potato salad. Take the latter — thick-cut cubes of potatoes and celery mixed with not too much mayo make it a superior, and substantial, side.
