During the 1982 conflict over the Falkland Islands, half of all Argentine casualties occurred in a single incident: the sinking of the navy vessel General Belgrano. Three hundred and twenty-three crewmembers were lost after the ship was hit with torpedoes from an English sub. In 2003, National Geographic set out to find the remains of the Belgrano. Argentine photographer Adriana Groisman went along. Her research into the story eventually became “Voices of the Tempest,” now on display at the University of Houston’s O’Kane Gallery. Groisman spoke to survivors of the conflict, and their taped testimony is part of “Voices.” The exhibit also includes photographs, video, a soundtrack of the ocean and a lifeboat like those used by the surviving crewmembers. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. One Main. For information, call 713–221–8042 or visit www.okanegallery.uhd.edu. Free.
