Forget stuffy museums and galleries this week — get your art out in the fresh air at the annual Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park. Festivalgoers can admire juried works from 300 visual artists in several different mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and jewelry. This year’s featured artist is Bruce Hol-werda, who specializes in what he calls “fantasy art” — ethereal, cartoonish and sort of futuristic people hurtling through space on machine-like contraptions, with more contraptions springing from their heads. Other artists include photographer Michael Chen, whose Dance of the Fishermen depicts fishing practices in Myanmar, and last year’s top prize-winner, metal sculptor Harold Siefert. Among others, there’s entertainment by Two Star Symphony, Carlos Maldonado y Grupo Fuerte and CORE Performance Company, who’s performing the world premiere of Last Flight of the Heron. Oh, and there are interactive events for kiddos. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Memorial Park, 6501 Memorial Drive. For information, call Memorial Park, 6501 Memorial Drive, or visit www.bayoucityartfestival.com. $10 for adults; free for children 12 and younger.
March 28-30, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2008
