Houston Press Menu of Menus Extravaganza

Sample the best bites from more than 40 local restaurants

Get ready to dine with the dinos at the Houston Press Menu of Menus Extravaganza, benefiting the Child Advocates Inc., at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. As you gawk at the T-Rex’s carnivorous canines, you can chomp down on sample bites from more than 40 local restaurants including benjy’s, Cadillac Bar, Mak Chin’s, Danton’s, Rattan, Italiano’s and, um, Shipley Donuts. (Insert joke about security guards being distracted by free donuts here.) Wash down all this fun-size tastiness with libations from La Fuente Winery and Tito’s Vodka.

If you want to avoid the crowds, consider the VIP option that includes early entrance, a lounge stocked with top-shelf liquor and admittance to the butterfly house — ‘cause you know the Papilionoidea family likes to party all night long! 6:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. VIP entrance.) One Hermann Circle Drive. For tickets and information, call 713-280-2478 or visit www.houstonpress.com. $30 to $75.
Tue., April 1, 6:30 p.m., 2008

We bought VIP tickets to the Menu of Menus event tonight and what a waste of money....even for a charity event! When we entered, no one told us to hang on to our wine glasses all night and no one directed us to the VIP room, so after the first wine tasting, we threw our plastic glasses into the garbage bin and continued on to the next table. When some friends arrived and said that the VIP room was at the rear of the building, the bartender advised that he could not give us new glasses, so we had to return to the front entrance to request new glasses and we were denied. What was the VIP for? General admission was allowed entry at 5:30. We feel we were gyped! You should be ashamed of yourselves for promoting something that wasn't authentic. We could have just as easily bought general admission and received the same service. The amount of alcohol served in the "VIP" room was the same as that in general admission. The food served were "appetizer amounts". In addition, you should strive for a better variety of food.......mostly Asian and Mexican!!! We were cheated!!!!!
