Robert HassThe U.S. Poet Laureate closes out Inprints Reading Series for the yearBy Julia RameyPublished on April 16, 2008 at 1:43amThe consensus of the literary establishment is that Robert Hass is, quite simply, the greatest poet alive. Whether you agree or disagree, odds are youll be at once charmed and disarmed by the former U.S. Poet Laureates verse, which hell recite and discuss today as part of the Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series. In addition to his Poet Laureate title, Hass was also a MacArthur Foundation genius grant recipient and is a noted environmentalist and literacy advocate. Hasss poetry is sometimes compared to Impressionist painting at once accessible to those with minimal formal training and study, but layered enough that top academics have a mountain of material to pore over. 7:30 p.m. April 21. Alley Theatre, 615 Texas. For information, call 713-521-2026 or visit www.inprinthouston.org. $5.
