“Houston Architectural Trilogy: Photography of Valentin Gertsman”

Change your mind about construction cranes and traffic cones at this art exhibit

It is very difficult to see urban construction as anything less than an enormous pain in the ass, especially when you’re stuck for 45 minutes on a six-lane highway that construction has winnowed into one chute. Either photographer Valentin Gertsman didn’t drive for 22 years or he truly believes in the art implicit in his subjects: assorted construction projects in Houston, shot between 1985 and 2007. The latter would seem to be the case, as is evident in his latest book, Construction Site = Art, from which fine-art photographs will be on display at the Museum of Printing History.

The exhibition, “Houston Architectural Trilogy: Photography of Valentin Gertsman,” will also feature images from his two other Houston-centric photo collections. Let Gertsman change your opinion of construction cranes and traffic cones. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Through July 19. 1324 West Clay. For information, call 713-522-4652 or visit www.printingmuseum.org. Free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: April 24. Continues through July 19, 2008
