The Broadway version of The Wedding Singer might just be good enough to be made into a movie…again. The stage show, which garnered many Tony and Drama Desk nominations, is the spawn of the ‘80s-themed film about a lonely wedding singer, played by Adam Sandler, in love with a girl who’s already taken. But the musical doesn’t include all those ‘80s hits from the movie or Sandler, either. Instead, it features a new book of tunes written by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy, screenwriter of the original film and a former writer for Saturday Night Live. See if the pair’s latest hits could inspire the Academy to create an award for Best Movie Based on a Musical Based on a Movie today at 8 p.m. Hobby Center, 800 Bagby.
