Planet B-Boy

Director Benson Lee takes viewers on a mission to find the best breakdancers in the world

Globalization spins around and does a back flip in the documentary Planet B-Boy, a breakthrough film by Benson Lee that chronicles the battle for the best b-boy crew on the planet. Planet B-Boy features vivid imagery and fast-paced music as it takes viewers into the lives of five teams as they prepare for the breakdancing version of the Olympics. Rivalries are explored and nationalistic pride stroked as the cameras follow dancers during intense training in their home cities of Paris, Osaka, Seoul and Las Vegas. “Planet B-Boy is my homage to the dancers from the past, present and future who have passionately devoted their lives to what I consider the greatest dance form ever,” says Lee. Screening times vary. Angelika Film Center, 501 Texas. For information, call 713–225-5232 or visit www.angelikafilmcenter.com. $6.50 to $9.
