Sounds Like Fun!

The Houston Symphony takes the show on the road

The Houston Symphony’s annual community concert series Sounds Like Fun! is already in full swing with more than a dozen free shows at area schools, churches and neighborhood centers on the schedule. A program of kid-friendly classics that are perfect for introducing children to classical music, the show includes excerpts from Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9 and Copland’s Billy the Kid. Concerts are short (only an hour long), and there’s an instrument “petting zoo” before each performance so that kids can get up close and personal with tubas, cymbals and the like.

Today’s morning concert is at 10:30 a.m. at Ripley House, 4410 Navigation Boulevard. That’s followed by an evening show at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 15500 El Camino Real. Concerts continue through June 24, with a final show at Miller Outdoor Theatre. For information and a complete schedule, call 713-238-1477 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. Free.
