It takes 12 people, and sometimes more, to bring Poi Dog Pondering frontman Frank Orrall’s patchwork quilt of rock, folk, funk, soul and techno to life behind his probing, spiritual lyrics. Poi Dog began in Orrall’s native Hawaii in 1985, then passed through Austin for the Columbia albums Wishing Like a Mountain and Thinking Like the Sea and Volo Volo (back when major labels had room for such wildly eclectic music). The group finally took root in Chicago, where their fertile minds hatched this year’s 7, pegged by one amazon.com reviewer as “an ingenious musical journey with infectious lyrics.” 10 p.m. Continental Club, 3700 Main. For more information, call 713-529-9899 or visit www.continentalclub.com. $15.
