“Moments in a Decade”

The Psophonia Dance Company is as old as the Euro and going just as strong

For a small dance company, ten years is a significant milestone. You’ve survived, a monumental and rare achievement in an era of tight funding for small troupes, and it’s likely that you’ve sharpened and refined your artistic vision — something that can absolutely be said about Psophonia Dance Company, which celebrates its decade-long existence tonight. “Moments in a Decade,” a multifaceted retrospective collecting highlights from the contemporary dance group’s active, innovative history, includes oldies like 1998’s How Sweet It Is, 2000’s Skinned and 2007’s Bent, as well as an excerpt from last year’s Phantasia. The performance, which features music ranging from Bach to Tom Waits to Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, is meant to be a celebration, which Psophonia deserves — they’re as old as the Euro, and going just as strong. 8 p.m. Through June 21. Barnevelder Arts/Movement Complex, 2201 Preston. For information, call 713-802-1181 or visit www.psophonia.com. $10 to $12.
June 19-21, 8 p.m., 2008
