On June 19, 1865, Texas finally got the message that slavery had been abolished (two years after the rest of the country). Today, African Americans celebrate Juneteenth as an anniversary of emancipation, and kids can join the fun at the Children’s Museum of Houston’s Juneteenth Celebration. Activities include performances, ice-cream making and arts projects. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Through June 19. 1500 Binz.
