A chamber orchestra, guest soloists, a professional dance troupe and members of the Bayou City Womens Chorus are also on hand for the song-and-dance program Metamorphosis: The Journey to Joy. During the first half of the show, the chorus will perform contemporary choral pieces by Stephen Sondheim and Cole Porter, as well as two newly commissioned works by Alan Shorter: Loves Song (about the hundreds of couples that lined up to get married at San Franciscos City Hall in 2004) and The Gathering Storm (about the ups and downs of life and the ability to persevere). Both of Shorters pieces are making their world premieres today. During the second half, BCPA performs Robert Seeleys Metamorphosis, which follows a young man as he struggles with his sexual identity.
