The Red Dons

This Portland foursome is packed full of post-punk influences

The Red Dons’ lo-fi post-punk borrows heavily from Portland outfit The Observers — with good reason. The band is led by former head Observer Douglas Burns. After members of his first group called it quits, Burns re-formed, renamed his sound and recruited other notable Portland rockers, including Justin Maurer of the Clorox Girls. The four prove to be just what fans left of the dial ordered, combining forces for a tight sound rounded out nicely with plenty of nods to Joy Division, The Buzzcocks, The Jam and, of course, The Observers. They’ll finish off a night packed full of punk with fellow Portlanders The Estranged and Houston’s own Something Fierce and Teenage Kicks. 8 p.m. Rudyard’s, 2010 Waugh. For information, call 713-521-0521 or visit www.rudyards.com. $8.
Fri., June 20, 8 p.m., 2008
