Forever Plaid

Not even death can keep these guys from singing

Never heard of The Plaids? They’re the clean-cut 1950s quartet that make up the cast of the off-Broadway musical Forever Plaid. The foursome is a group of high-school friends who share one dream — to hit it big. Unfortunately, they met with an unfortunate end when they crashed into a bus filled with Catholic schoolgirls (who just happened to be on their way to see the Beatles). That’s where we come in. The Plaids have come back from the dead for one final performance, one last shot at stardom.

The show includes some well-known era songs such as “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing,” “Chain Gang,” “Cry” and “Heart and Soul.” Described as “deliciously goofy,” Forever Plaid is a charming, nostalgic piece of theatrical fluff. 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 2:30 p.m. Sundays. Through July 13. Unity Theatre, 300 Church Street in Brenham. For information, call 979-830-8358 or visit www.unitybrenham.org. $22.
Fri., July 25, 8 p.m.; Sun., July 27, 2 p.m.; Thu., July 31, 8 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 2, 8 p.m., 2008
