“Picture This!”

Houston Center for Photography works with the Children’s Cancer Hospital at M.D. Anderson to produce an art exhibit that’s full of life

“Kids with cancer” isn’t synonymous with happiness and joy. But it always seems that even gravely ill kids manage to be surprising wellsprings of hope; while their bodies may be vulnerable, their innocence seems to be immune. This is shown to be entirely true at the Houston Center for Photography’s annual “PictureThis!” exhibition, which collects the photography-based work of children getting treatment at the Children’s Cancer Hospital at M.D. Anderson. Throughout the eight-week educational program, the patients used an assortment of photographic methods and tools; this year’s finished projects include photo collages, flip books, and work with camera obscura and cyanotype techniques. The results are highly personalized, playful and full of life — proving that cancer’s no match for the potency of an imaginative mind. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Through July 13. 1441 West Alabama. For information, call 713-529-4755 or visit www.hcponline.org. Free.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: June 13. Continues through July 13, 2008
