“Art of Can”

Red Bull puts together a caffeine-fueled exhibit

It should probably be noted that if you have so many empty Red Bull cans lying around that you think, “Hey, I’m going to make a six-foot-tall sculpture out of these,” you might want to consider cutting back on the caffeine. That said, the slender, colorful little cans do make for a nifty medium, hence “Art of Can,” an ongoing exhibition of art made from — you guessed it — Red Bull cans.

Past exhibitions have featured angels, airplanes, animals, trees and even sneakers and clothing. The Houston installation includes creations from young locals who’ve done their hometown proud by crafting cowboy boots and a Texans helmet, as well as other offerings like a chessboard, a unicorn and a stool and chairs. No word on whether featured artists get a lifetime supply of Red Bull (as artist’s supplies, of course). 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. Through July 25. The Galleria, 5085 Westheimer. For information, call 713-622-0663 or visit www.redbullartofcan.com. Free.
July 12-25, 2008
