Carolyn Haines, Dean James and Mary Saums

Three mystery writers present their latest releases

Carolyn Haines, Dean James and Mary Saums are dropping by Murder by the Book today to sign and discuss their most recent releases. Haines will present her new Sarah Booth Delaney mystery, Wishbones, which follows former P. I. Delaney as she packs up her life in Mississippi and heads to Los Angeles to become an actor. Once there, she quickly lands a leading role opposite the sexy Graf Miliau in a sultry remake of Body Heat. But mysterious accidents start happening, and Delaney is soon doing more sleuthing than acting. Described as “a cozy with some real heat,” Wishbones is a sweet mix of charm, romance and thrills. Also signing today is Saums, whose second Thistle & Twigg mystery, Mighty Old Bones, starts when a thunderstorm uproots an old tree, uncovering a skeleton. Best friends Jane Thistle and Phoebe Twigg get caught up in solving the mystery. And finally, award-winning mystery writer (and Murder by the Book staffer) Dean James, writing as Honor Hartman, will present The Unkindest Cut, his novel set in Houston and the Texas Hill Country that follows the amateur crime-solving exploits of the newly widowed Emma Diamond. 4:30 p.m. 2342 Bissonnet.
