Pumping Iron

Before Ahnold was a movie star, he was a, uh, movie star

“I am coming day and night, it’s terrific, I’m in heaven,” beams a taut Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1977 documentary Pumping Iron. Back then, “Ahnold,” who was 31, was too focused on the satisfying feeling of “the pump” and smoking a fat one to worry too much about his future political career. Alt-lit haven Domy Books takes us back before Schwarzenegger said “I’ll be back” with Pumping Iron. The film, part of Domy’s Monday Night Movie series, follows five-time Mr. Universe Schwarzenegger and his competitor Lou Ferrigno (yes, the original Hulk himself) on their paths to the 1977 Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition showdown. 8:30 p.m. 1709 Westheimer.
