The Russian Cultural Center presents a sneak peek at Houston Ballet’s new season

Pushkin would be pleased: Not only is the Houston Ballet about to open its ‘08-’09 season with his Onegin, but tonight the Russian Cultural Center Our Texas will present a sneak preview and discussion of the ballet. The Houston Ballet added legendary choreographer John Cranko’s version to its repertoire in 2005, and its quick restaging will be a treat for those who love sweeping tales filled with romance, duels and revenge. It’s a complex ballet, so enthusiasts will want to attend tonight’s preview, where several speakers will talk about the production and the art behind it. Principal dancer Amy Fote will discuss what it’s like to play the lovelorn Tatiana, a role she danced in the 2005 production, and visiting artist Jane Bourne, who staged Cranko’s ballet in Houston, will discuss the work’s history. There will be wine and hors d’oeuvres (sorry, no vodka), but there’s still plenty for Russophiles to feast on. 7:30 p.m. 2337 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-395-3301 or visit www.ourtexas.org . Free.
