Shine a Light, The Stones and Scorsese

This film is a treat for movie and music fans alike

Shine a Light is what happens when the masters of two fields combine. Martin Scorsese (he makes movies) shot the Rolling Stones (they make music) during two nights of their “Bigger Bang” tour in 2006 for the rockumentary. The movie preview reveals Bill Clinton in the audience as Mick Jagger grinds up on Christina Aguilera, strums a duet with Jack White and sings the blues with Buddy Guy. And, yes, there’s plenty of footage of Jagger shaking his tiny hips and Keith Richards in sparkling head wraps. The concert is spliced with documentary-style footage of behind-the-scenes drama between a nervous Scorsese and the freewheeling Stones, as well as old footage of a fresh-faced Jagger wrongly predicting the band’s short-lived fame. If you couldn’t make it to the real show, the glossy film from Marty’s practiced eye is the next best thing. And it will be screened at the Alamo Drafthouse, so you enjoy some choice draft beer and a burger with your wrinkly rock stars. 7:30 p.m. Alamo Drafthouse — Mason, 531 South Mason Road. For information, call 281-492-6900 or visit www.drafthouse.com/mason. $6.50.
Mon., Aug. 11, 7:30 p.m., 2008
