Fans of the Sea Duck Race

Rubber Ducky, you’re No. 1!

Regression is a very acceptable practice when there’s charity involved. Case in point: MarineBio.org’s second annual Fans of the Sea Duck Race, in which kids and grown-ups race little rubber duckies for prizes and a good cause. You can sponsor one duck or several; corporations can get big five-foot tall ducks. Hundred of the toys will be plopped into Buffalo Bayou and allowed to swim downstream; the first 100 to cross the finish line will win their proud owners prizes ranging from vacations to scuba lessons. The actual race may be a laugh, but the cause certainly isn’t: Funds raised will go toward educating young people about ocean conservation, and plenty of experts and activists will be on hand to talk about the manatees, salmon and sea turtles that are benefiting from the ducks’ “swim.” 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Houston Downtown Aquarium, 410 Bagby. For information, call 832-202-4505 or visit www.duckrace2008.com. Sponsorship is $10 to $150; attendance is free.
Sat., Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2008
