Gulf Coast Reading Series

The season opener showcases three poets from the UH Creative Writing Program

Nothing says “back to school” like witnessing the results of a good edumacation. The Gulf Coast Reading Series starts out the school year with a trio of talent from the University of Houston’s nationally acclaimed Creative Writing Program. Hayan Charara, the editor of Inclined to Speak: An Anthology of Contemporary Arab American Poetry, is ahead of the class with two collections of poetry, The Alchemist’s Diary and The Sadness of Others. Poets Ed Porter and Kelly Moore will also read during today’s program. Moore shared an honorable mention nod with Charara this year in the Creative Writing Program’s annual student awards. See success in its early stages at 7 p.m. Brazos Bookstore, 2421 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-523-0701 or visit www.brazosbookstore.com. Free.
