Scott Gordon rips things into shape. For his exhibit “in the shadow of doubt,” the artist manipulates old paper materials — newspapers, photographs, book pages and covers, envelopes, album jackets, etc. — to create colorful collages. The pieces exist not only as a whole composition, but also as a collection of individual treasures. Seen from a distance, the torn remnants are abstract shapes that come together like unconventional puzzle pieces, but each scrap was once its own whole: a snippet from a novel’s table of contents, part of a personal note, half of a family picture or a piece of an album cover. Gordon extracts these bits and preserves them in an entirely new context — which, who knows, might fall prey to a like-minded artist in the future. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
