More About

Give an event a title like The Shivering Eyelash, and you know right away it’s a little, well, weird. But weirdness is something the folks at the International Experimental Cinema Exposition strive for. To wit, they’ve collected several of the most groundbreaking avant-garde films from the past century and packaged them together in a retrospective for screening at Aurora Picture Show. Those featured include 1936’s X-Ray Film I: The Alimentary System, a German film by Robert Janker that uses X-rays to follow food from mouth to anus and all stops in between; Jean Genet’s Un Chant D’Amour, a 1950 flick about the fantasies of a gay male prisoner and his warden; Frans Zwartjes’s 1970 Spectator, about a photographer who becomes obsessed with his long-lashed model; and Paul Bartel’s 1968 The Secret Cinema, about a woman whose life is being filmed without her knowledge. If you need a little help “getting it,” curator Christopher May will be in attendance at Saturday’s 8 p.m. screening. The Shivering Eyelash also screens at 3 p.m. today. 800 Aurora.
