Sir John Gielgud, Tab Hunter and Liberace all on the big screen together - where else but Q-Fest, the 12th Annual Houston Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival?
Today's opening-night feature is Save Me, with Chad Allen as a man struggling with drug addiction. When his family places him in a Christian recovery center to reorient his sexuality, he develops a "close friendship" with a fellow resident and challenges a counselor to reexamine her beliefs.
Saturday's lineup begins with Derek, which follows the life of artist/director Derek Jarman, then it's on to a sample of Jarman's work with The Queen Is Dead: A Film by Derek Jarman, made up of three music videos from the English band The Smiths. There's also The Loved One (with that Gielgud/Hunter/Liberace cast), about a man who unexpectedly finds himself in charge of his uncle's funeral. The who's who cast also includes Jonathan Winters, Milton Berle and Dana Andrews.
Sunday's films are Out Late, the brave story of five people who came out of the closet as 50-to-70-year-olds, The New World, which chronicles the baby quest of a lesbian couple, and Chris & Don: A Love Story, the true life story of Christopher Isherwood and Don Bachardy's love affair over three decades.
