"Seattle's last hair band" takes on The Mink
Published on October 08, 2008 at 1:42am
Akimbo would put any longhaired mane in a tangle. The Seattle threesome pounds out riff-heavy, rhythm-conscious tunes meant for head thrashing and fist pumping. The trio's blend of metal and rock caught the attention of Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) back in 2006, and since then the group has called the punk icon's record label, Alternative Tentacles, home. The band may jokingly refer to itself as "Seattle's last hair band" on its MySpace page, but the joke carries a bit of truth. In their four albums, the guys' sound occasionally recalls the days of perms and spandex, but this time it's more manly. 8 p.m. The Mink/Backroom, 3718 Main. For information, call 713-522-9985 or visit www.themink.org/backroom. $10.
