Andrew Porter

The San Antonio author brings his cast of characters from suburban America to Brazos Book Store

Author Andrew Porter won't have far to drive when he comes to Houston to read from The Theory of Light and Matter - he lives in San Antonio. The characters in his book, however, live all across America. Theory, which is a collection of short stories, won Porter the Flannery O'Connor Award (he also has the Glenna Luschei Award and a Pushcart Prize on his shelf).

All of the characters in Theory share an overwhelming sense of loneliness and loss. Hampered by the often fluid and sometimes elusive qualities of memory, they struggle to understand where they are by looking at where they have been. 5 p.m. Brazos Bookstore, 2421 Bissonnet.
