Titus Andronicus

Shakespeare's tragedy Titus Andronicus is, even by today's standards, extremely, extremely gory. The story of a Roman general and a Gothic queen engaged in a furious cycle of revenge involves - for real - a woman getting raped and then having her tongue and hands cut off, as well as a threat to hang an infant. Choreographer Dominic Walsh, who read the play seven years ago and was "drawn to its physicality," has set his new retelling firmly in the abstract, without undercutting its passion and intensity. For this performance, Walsh has collaborated with the string ensemble Two Star Symphony, whose members composed a brand-new score, and artist Frederique de Montblanc, who created the costumes and sets. 7:30 p.m. today, tomorrow and Saturday.
