In the past decade, a thriving noise scene has emerged in direct aesthetic opposition to the tanned, fake, pretty faces most often associated with the city of Los Angeles. HEALTH burst from that experimental-music maelstrom in 2005 with a vengeance. Furious tribal beats, generally off-kilter rhythms and a collage of seemingly disparate sounds collide in a way that makes this band sound like nothing less than urban angst personified. Those who appreciate the brutal intensity of the Pop Group's stark reworking of reggae and the complete disregard for any easily delineated connection to all previous music present on PiL's classic Metal Box will love how HEALTH is genuinely attempting to create something vital, new and accessible for those willing to take artistic risks alongside it.
