Houston Survivor Challenge

City Councilwoman (and ex-tribal member) Jolanda "Jo" Jones heads up a local, one-day version of the hit television series

So you didn't make it through the auditions for the latest Survivor but you like the taste of dirt grubs? Or maybe you just don't want to run around half naked for the world (and your ex) to see. Try the Houston Survivor Challenge. The inaugural challenge will pit regular Houstonians against local celebrities and more than 20 veterans of the Survivor television show - including Houston city councilwoman Jolanda "Jo" Jones - in "physical and mental challenges" (wait, didn't we all just go through that with Ike?).

There'll be plenty more local folks in the mix, including Channelview native Natalie Bolton of Survivor Micronesia. Houstonians Uchenna and Joyce Agu, who won the Amazing Race, will be hosts/emcees for the event. Unlike the real Survivor, backstabbing will probably be kept to a minimum, since proceeds benefit local charities. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sesquicentennial Park, 400 Texas. For information, visit www.ujanaconleyfoundation.org. Free (for spectators).
Sat., Oct. 25, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 2008
