Reel Talk: Exploring the Films of kA'RAMUU KUSH

Go one-on-one with Hollywood writer/director kA'RAMUU KUSH

So what's Hollywood got to do with Texas Southern University? Lots, if communications instructor Jordyn Lorenz gets her way. As a way to introduce her students to the film industry, she's launched a series of lectures and screenings with movieland insiders. Reel Talk: Exploring the Films of kA'RAMUU KUSH, an Actor's Studio-style forum and mini-film festival, is the first installment.

KUSH is currently a directing fellow at the American Film Institute, but he already has half a dozen short films to his name, all of which have made the rounds of the industry's most prestigious festivals (Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca and LA Film Festival), so he has lots of insider info to share with up-and-coming actors and directors.

Today's program starts off with a screening of three of KUSH's works: Love Aquarium (three couples each attack love in their own way), K(no)W De:Tales (a paraplegic woman goes on a blind date with a man she knows online as Dark Gable) and Dear Me (a mix of live action and still photography that follows a writer facing a near-fatal bout of writer's block). Then KUSH hits the stage for that Actor's Studio-style one-on-one interview/Q&A session. 7 p.m. The Ensemble Theatre, 3535 Main. For information, visit www.reeltalk.art.officelive.com. Free.
