First Thursdays at Dean’s: Dramatic Shorts

A monthly film series hosts screenings of dramatic shorts

Headlining today’s First Thursdays at Dean’s is Lance Larson’s award-winning Bloom. The suspenseful love story captured — among many others — Best Short at the Hollyshorts Film Festival and Best USA Short at the Jacksonville Film Festival. In it, a used-car lot bookkeeper falls for a scrappy, good-looking guard. When she turns his eyes away from the security cameras, tragedy strikes, but the real drama is delivered with — what else? — an unexpected twist at the end. The Houston Film Commission’s monthly screening will feature a lineup of dramatic shorts from its Texas Filmmakers Showcase. Bloomscreens after the other shorts — Imprint by Val Blumreich, Kid by Miguel Alvarez and Muertas by Ryan Williams — start the night off at 8:30 p.m. Dean’s Credit Clothing, 316 Main.
