The body count keeps rising for ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. The Austin-via-Olympia noise-rockers scored one of the decade's best albums with 2002's ferocious, forbidding Source Tags and Codes, the beginning of a bittersweet tenure on Interscope Records that ended after the band's most recent LP, 2006's uneven but underrated So Divided. ("Naked Sun," for example, revealed a previously untapped proclivity for torrential Texas blues.) Childhood friends Conrad Keely and Jason Reece — who, with formidable guitarist Kevin Allen, form the core of Trail's revolving-door roster — have landed on their feet, setting up the band's own Richter Scale label through Houston's Justice Records. A full-length is due soon, but Richter Scale maiden release Festival Thyme EP finds Trail winding through Quadrophenia territory for more of the classically influenced chaos fans have come to know and fear.
