More About

As a founding member of oddball noise rockers Half Japanese, Jad Fair made a living off of his quirky music. His solo efforts over the years have mostly been more restrained affairs, however, and recent collaborations with sometimes better-known musicians (Daniel Johnston, Richard Hell, Yo La Tengo, Teenage Fanclub) have introduced his music, and that of his various side projects, to new audiences. Fair is a legend, as is anyone still making relevant music after more than 30 years, and after countless releases finally seems comfortable with his musical legacy. These days, the Austin resident and Michigan native focuses on art as much as music and gives fans the opportunity to purchase his work — his drawings range in price, but music fans can get their own Fair-penned ditty for a mere $300. For cheapskates, Fair also has a free download of his Sunshiney Sunshine album at his website, www.jadfair.org. Check it.
