A Bit on the Arty Side… is a Cinema Bomar potpourri. The vintage filmstrip collective’s latest round of offerings is a multi-genre, multi-topic mix of its 16-millimeter movies. Assassination Extra (1963) is a silent strip chronicling the Houston Chronicle’s chronicling of President Kennedy’s assassination. Trade Tattoo (1937) and Musical Poster No. 1 (1939) are early creations of Len Lye, the first filmmaker to draw directly on top of film stock. The two flicks document the British postal service and how to keep Nazis out of your beeswax, respectively. Time Piece (1965) is a Jim Henson film on the pros and cons of good timing. Toes Tell(1969) is an unintentionally erotic lesson for boys and girls describing how different things feel on their feet and toes. Turning a Sphere Inside Out (1977) explores Smale’s Paradox (as noted in the title).
