Dead Alive

Web exclusive!

Meet Lionel, a momma’s boy with a serious problem — his mom is a zombie. In the movie Dead Alive, Lionel can’t bring himself to off his undead mom or any of her zombie friends, so he keeps them locked up in the basement. In between tending to his captives and running from a pile of human organs, Lionel works hard to be normal. He takes a zombie baby out for a walk — in a barbed wire-lined stroller. He does get some help from Father McGruder, a priest who moonlights as a zombie-ass-kicking kung-fu master (“I kick ass for the Lord!”).

Filled with absurd dialogue (“Your mother ate my dog!” / “Not all of it.”), Dead Alive is gore-meets-farce along the lines of Shaun of the Dead, just with a little more blood splatter. The 1992 flick is from director Peter Jackson (yep, The Lord of the Rings and King Kong Peter Jackson). 11:55 p.m. today and tomorrow. River Oaks Theatre, 2009 West Gray. For information, call 713-866-8881 or visit www.landmarktheatre.com. $9.50.
Fri., Nov. 14, 11:55 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 15, 11:55 p.m., 2008
