Women explore the tests of time in “Thrive.” DiverseWorks’ latest exhibit features an all-female (and all--Houston) lineup exploring the battle against the clock, in day-to-day life and in a lifetime. Debra Rueb’s black-and-white photos transform minutiae into masterpiece with images of an elderly woman passing time with simple activities such as sorting pills, reading the paper and sitting with her daughter and granddaughter. Laura Bennett traces the effects of emotion and time on her physical appearance by diagramming her self-portraits. And Mary Jenewein shows how time can be torturous with her 8 Degrees of Wrong series, in which dioramas and cloth dolls depict scenes of women in sweatshops and prostitution houses. See how time serves these and other artists at today’s opening with a presentation by performance artists Elia Arce and Joanne Brigham at 6 p.m. Regular viewing hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
