Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse “The Devil” Hughes is the kind of guy you sit up at night worrying about when your girlfriend goes out on the town. But secretly he’s also the guy you wish you could be. Queens of the Stone Age leader Josh Homme and Hughes started EODM as a boogie-rock side project back in 1998. The moniker may mislead some newbies into thinking this is some sort of Celtic Frost business, when in all actuality their sound is "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals”, as Hughes has always declared. EODM hits town tonight to make up a date that was scrubbed due to that whole hurricane thing back in September. Their newest release is Heart On, which is decidedly a more mature record from Hughes, the punnish title aside. It’s steeped in heartache and loss, but it never loses its sleaze appeal. It has this in spades, especially on “High Voltage” which may or may not be about Hughes’ former ladyfriend and tattooist Kat Von D.
