Eddie Griffin

Web exclusive!

You know Eddie Griffin once you see him. He’s a familiar face, even if his name sometimes escapes fans. Griffin starred in the television series Malcolm & Eddie (as Eddie, duh), as well as in the films Undercover Brother and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. And you saw him in Scary Movie 3. But you already know all that about Griffin.

Here’s some stuff you didn’t know about him: Griffin has spent time managing boxer J.C. (short for John Clark, not that other J.C. guy). A sometime vocalist, he appeared on two tracks on Dr. Dre’s album 2001. Griffin was voted the #1 Dumbest Driver by a TV show after he crashed a rare $1 million Ferrari Enzo during a charity racing event in 2007 (the car belonged to a studio bigwig). He has eight kids. (No word on how many baby mamas.) And during a Black Enterprise magazine event, Griffin was hauled off the stage by the magazine’s publisher for using the N word a couple hundred times too many.

Griffin says his comedy is patterned after Richard Pryor’s and Redd Foxx’s. We’re not sure if he means the car-crashing bit or the being-hauled-off-the-stage part. Decide for yourself whether Griffin approaches Pryor/Foxx greatness at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 7620 Katy Freeway. For information, call 713-333-8800 or visit www.improv-houston.com. $30.
Fri., Nov. 21, 8 & 10:30 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 22, 8 & 10:30 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 23, 7:30 p.m., 2008
