Some girls spend their summers at camp learning archery or basket weaving. But a few lucky others rock the fuck out. Girls Rock!is (in case you didn’t guess) about the latter. The documentary follows young aspiring rockers through a summer at a rock and roll camp for girls in Portland. There’s Laura, a Korean adoptee who ™ death metal; Misty, a recovering meth addict who mines her struggles with homelessness and gangs for material; and Amelia, an eight-year-old who uses her dog Pipi as inspiration for her experimental rock. These girls, and others, are taught how to play an instrument, start a band, write songs and work it under the spotlight by chick rockers such as Sleater--Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein. Their newfound talents are showcased at an end-of-the--summer concert. Girls Rock! screens at 6 p.m. today and 3 p.m. tomorrow. Aurora Picture Show, 800 Aurora.
