“New Forms: Rethinking Crafts”

Is it art? Is it kitsch? CAC says it’s both

It’s hard to feel inspired by the thousands of tchotchkes and trinkets you routinely encounter while holiday shopping, so if you’re feeling both broke and creatively drained, head over to catch the final week of the exhibition “New Forms: Rethinking Crafts,” hosted by the Community Artists’ Collective. Curated by Sarah Trotty, the show features an assortment of outside-the-ol’-box craft creations by local artists including Yinka Adeyemi, Dennis Black, Joan Bristow, Emaniah and Linda Soders. Some of the crafts are functional, some party functional and some not at all functional — which is fine, since they’re art. Noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Through December 13. Midtown Art Center Tea Room Gallery, 1413 Holman. For information, call 713-523-1616 or visit www.thecollective.org. Free.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 14. Continues through Dec. 13, 2008
